The Other Side of Truth: Devising a unique literate based curriculum

In 2003, Woodberry Down Community Primary School was in serious weaknesses. Two years later it was on Ofsted’s list of ‘outstanding schools’. Literacy and literature have been at the core of this remarkable improvement. Can a school, facing some of the most challenging conditions in the country, re-write the rule book? And can it make literacy link with real-life for the children, other subjects and deliver the results? This workshop will exemplify what we have done using a sequence of work developed around Beverley Naidoo’s award-winning novel, The Other Side of Truth.

Booking: Cost: £100.00 (including lunch) UKLA Members: £90; UK students/NQTs/TAs/Unwaged £70. Cheques made payable to UKLA, 4th Floor Attenborough Building, University of Leicester, Leicester LE17RH.
